New Stuyahok

New Stuyahok has fair to good potential for wind power development, provided a suitable wind turbine site can be identified. Two met towers have been installed in New Stuyahok, the first from 2004 to 2007 in a meadow near the apron of the old airport, and the second from 2012 to 2014 at the north end of the old runway. The meadow area was adversely affected by turbulence and the second site was presumed superior, but it too proved turbulent. The meadow site is now occupied by structures and the old airport is not available for development due to land ownership issues, hence identifying a wind turbine site has proven challenging.
More recent considerations for a wind turbine project site are along the route of a proposed electrical intertie that will connect New Stuyahok and nearby Ekwok. This is addressed in the Intertie Route Site Options report.
