Shemya has a superb 7 (on a scale of 1 to 7) wind resource and possibly acceptable extreme wind behavior for wind power development to supply renewable energy to Eareckson Air Force Station, but the analyses were from weather station data, which is difficult to interpret for extreme wind probability. Weather station data also does not accommodate turbulence calculations, which would be needed for IEC 61400-1 site classification. Installation of a meteorological test tower for high quality wind data collection is recommended.
