The Chefornak wind resource is outstanding as wind power class 6 (on a scale of 1 to 7) and presents ideal characteristics for wind power generation. With community assistance and support, V3 Energy installed a met tower in 2012 near the Kinia River on the east side of the village. Difficult access to this location from the community’s port facility however has forced consideration of possible alternate wind turbine sites on the west side of the village or near the apron of the new airport. Regardless of wind turbine site location, a high value wind-diesel system to serve Chefornak should be possible.
