Napakiak

NapakiakNapakiak’s wind resource is very good as wind power class 4 (on a scale of 1 to 7) with excellent characteristics for wind power development. Note that although the village of Napakiak itself is not particularly windy given its location on the banks of the Kuskokwim River, the prospective wind power site (and site of the met tower installed by V3 Energy in 2010) is on a well-exposed hill across the slough that separates Napakiak from the mainland.

Napakiak, however, is connected by three-phase electrical distribution from nearby Bethel, so a wind power project serving only Napakiak would be of limited utility. Wind turbines could of course be located at the Napakiak site to also serve Bethel, but because the Bethel wind resource is also wind power class 4, a wind power project would more likely be located in Bethel itself for ease of access and lower development costs.
