The Stebbins wind project site, located on the plateau about one mile north of the village, has an outstanding Class 6 wind resource with a mean annual wind speed of 7.1 m/s (at 30 meters), low extreme wind probability and low turbulence. Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is upgrading the power system of Stebbins with a new powerplant under construction in 2013, a new distribution intertie to Saint Michael with planned construction in 2014, and an intent to integrate wind power (possibly in 2015) to create a wind-diesel hybrid power system that will serve both Stebbins and Saint Michael.
